explain what a brief is..

Competitive Brief: This type of brief is given to you when participating in competitions, it allows the clients to understand what they must do to enter and complete the competition, this brief is different to other briefs as it is more intense with the audience. This brief is usually used for company's that are promoting competitions, the brief is given out to clients so they can understand what they are to do. When creating the brief the client must consider the scope of work, medium required, size of purchase ( how many competition details are needed), target group and how to attract them, time framed, quantities.

Contractual Brief that is discussed between two sets of people the client and the               company. The layout of the contractual brief is clear and easy to read to allow the client to complete their details, they would be asked to include personal information and formality's that are necessary to allow them to complete the work. The advantages of these types of contracts are that it is easy for the client to complete with extra information, also it allows them to have more control over the process. The disadvantages are for the company making the contract as their may be disagreements between what the client and the company would like to be on the contractual brief.

Formal brief: This is the type of brief that may change during the process due to other requiments, this is the brief that may be more relaxed than others. The layout of a formal brief would be very relaxed and easy to read, it would allow the client to understand and create product more easily and quickly.

Comparing this to negotiated Brief, they are both quite simliar. The only difference is that, the client and the company are included; also what is wanted, needed or that has to be done is usually spoken over the phone or during a face to face meeting. The sort of information needed in a Negotiation brief  to be a little harder to understand involving; size, cost, target group. time frame, quantity, quality and more. Also this brief is usually targeted towards a client who owns a small business or company wanting to make some investments with another business; this suits both the recipient and the creator.

An informal brief is usually progressed within a meeting, all aspects ( details and information) must appeal to all members that the client lists; if not then this will be discussed to make a variety of changes, so agreements can be made. The advantages with an informal brief is that it can be created within an relaxed environment. The advantages it can come across unprofessional and unclear to others, along with you may not be chosen as the final client as it is. Such as wedding planner, the clients will have more than one in line; if they do not meet up to the clients expectation you will not be chosen as the other has a better view of what the client needs.

Now on to a Tender Brief which you would receive this if you are new to the company and you were to bring up your own ideas to the plate amongst your colleagues, to decide if you should be the client.

Both briefs are produced within a relaxed environment, along with ideas can be discussed within a meeting. Yet Tender has to be stated in a formal manner as you are wanting a position that other are willing to fight for, comparing this an informal brief then comes across as unclear.
