Lighting

What Is Hard/Soft Light?
Produces well-defined, dark shadows and tends to originate from a light source, which is usually located far away. Where as, soft light produces soft shadows or no shadows at all. This is normally done by either, adjusting the light or cover the light with non-transparent objects or changing the angle. Hard lighting is produced normally on sunny days, where they are little clouds, like wise other weathers such as rain etc. will produce soft light.

What is good about using strong directional lighting in portraits?
Its good because it brings out the person's skin tone, giving the skin a soft, glowing and clear appearance; Radiant. Along with directional lighting, the skin will appear to have no impurities which magazines like Elle, Vogue, Cosmopolitan are looking for.

What is Clam Shell lighting?
Calm shell lighting is used for portrait shots, by using a light source, also with a reflector. This helps reduce shadows from dark places on the face such as the nose, neck and eyes or anything that covers bruises from the face, making the face much clearer.
The way it works is, the light source is posted much higher above the person head, so the light comes from the top as if it is the sun, at this moment the light will produce shadows on a persons face mostly in areas that light can not reach such as under the eyes, neck.

What is Rim Lighting?
Rim lighting occurs when the main source of light is placed behind the subject, which means the subject face is in the shadow. Also, there is a rim of light present around the subject's head. As seen in the image below.

What is Light Graffiti?
Is a technique in which exposures are made by hand held light or by the moving the camera depending on the shutter speed.
