BTEC National Diploma; GOING LIVE PART 1

Eastenders tends start between the times of 7:30pm and 8:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. This Programme is sandwiched between family shows on some occasions as after 8pm becomes the time where the vulgarity and intimate scenes appear in certain shows; Miranda, Mrs.Brown Boys and many others. Too further add, the audience become a whole lot broader as the target audience for this TV programme is aimed at 16-25 year olds due to the language being used, the story plot isn't for children under the age of 16, as relationships shouldn't be occurring as education is the main opportunity to be thinking and concentrating on. Also Eastenders is shown regularly from Monday – Friday as it is a mainstream Drama Soap, which means there isn’t a lot of time to edit due it needing to be ready for certain deadline. Using a single camera makes it clear, understanding and believable. Comparing to multi camera productions cost a lot of money, take up more time to edit and a lot more characters will be needed.

The shot used within the 1st minute of the sequence, is an establishment shot; basically letting the viewer’s now that the character is at home, sitting on the sofa. This is where the first few seconds will be focused on before moving on something else. Slowly the shot begins to pan (moving vertically towards) the front room/ living room door. This particular shot allows the audience to see who is entering the room as the camera is panning, this position of the camera allows the movement to move slowly.

In this shot it is a mid-shot of the girl, within this shot depends on the sequence you won’t know whether she was sitting down and standing up. This shot used most of the time within soaps or single camera productions. As it causes the audience to feel some sort of sympathy as her face expresses a little pain.

Another mid shot, as there are two characters within the scene. They stay focused on the two as they are the main topic within the sequence at the moment, so wide shots are the best to be used as it allows the viewers to concentrated on the body language and facial expressions; allowing understanding

But in general, there’s a variety of shots being used within this chosen soap but the ones I have chosen are the mains ones that are used throughout every single episode of Eastenders due to the fact that it is a Drama, so I a lot of movement is going to be used, filled with drama action along with a lot speech so those who are watching enable to understand the story line with ease. The wide shots, mid shots, close ups are used a lot as there is a change of setting.

DEAL OR NO DEAL:

Deal or No Deal is a United Kingdom, First broadcast on Channel 4 on 31 October 2005, it aired six days a week excluding Saturdays for the entire year for its first eight seasons. The show used to include a summer break of a month during July and August, but this has been dropped. In the show's ninth season, the Sunday programme was dropped. Filmed in the round, the game is a simple game of chance and nerve, it features a single contestant trying to beat the Banker, as they open 22 identical sealed red boxes assigned to potential contestants in an order of their choosing. The boxes contain randomly assigned sums of money inside ranging from 1p to £250,000. The day's contestant is selected at the beginning, bringing their box to the chair. As the boxes are opened over a number of rounds, the Banker makes offers of real money to gain possession of their box. The gameplay is coordinated by Edmonds, who communicates with the unseen banker by telephone. Contestants can either 'deal' to take the money, or play to the end, settling on the amount in their box.

Using this as the opening shot which is a close up shot of the man’s face. This shot lets the people watching is on the show or who could even be presenting the show. As the first line being used ‘ WELCOME TO DEAL OR NO DEAL THIS IS..’ which is a must so the audience can know what and who they are watching or in other word what will be taking place on the programme.

It jump cuts to the contestant and presenter as he has already introduced himself and the players within the story line, which is short quick and simple as a way of getting straight to be the point. This is an entertainment show, so it a way of entertaining and allowing the audience to socialize. Also this shot brings attention to watch the audience will be watching, both of the men are clearly in conversation which is vital to the programme as communication is needed, giving the audience the focus on both people.

The close up of the girls face enhances that he is either excited, happy or in enjoyment of what is happening or what she is being ask. Obviously this is a mid-close up shot before screen grabbing this shot, it was close up to her face before zooming out to a mid-shot. This shot is inviting to the audience making them know that something good is about to happen.

Overall there’s a variety of shots being used throughout this programme as there is always some sort of discussion going on either will the contestant or with the audience themselves at the show recording. Shot reverse shots are used quite a lot because of the conversation continuously be done.

Deal or no Deal is a multi-camera action production, as the camera shots are seen to be used all over the studio. It wouldn’t be possible to be do what needs to be done with single camera production, mean that means the audience would have to wait for the question. Multi camera is a quicker way of recording the scenes.

All of these shots are mid shots, during the news feed mid shots are mainly used becaused the presenters are the m ain focus as they are the ones telling the veiwer the information they want to know or hear about. It makes it clear to those you havent watched it before or have to catch up on what they have missed slightly, they all begin with some sort of context. Also this shot shows the background  and setting which allows the viewer to see where it is set. It also gives us a clear view of the presenters so we can see their expressions etc.

explain what a brief is..

Competitive Brief: This type of brief is given to you when participating in competitions, it allows the clients to understand what they must do to enter and complete the competition, this brief is different to other briefs as it is more intense with the audience. This brief is usually used for company's that are promoting competitions, the brief is given out to clients so they can understand what they are to do. When creating the brief the client must consider the scope of work, medium required, size of purchase ( how many competition details are needed), target group and how to attract them, time framed, quantities.

Contractual Brief that is discussed between two sets of people the client and the               company. The layout of the contractual brief is clear and easy to read to allow the client to complete their details, they would be asked to include personal information and formality's that are necessary to allow them to complete the work. The advantages of these types of contracts are that it is easy for the client to complete with extra information, also it allows them to have more control over the process. The disadvantages are for the company making the contract as their may be disagreements between what the client and the company would like to be on the contractual brief.

Formal brief: This is the type of brief that may change during the process due to other requiments, this is the brief that may be more relaxed than others. The layout of a formal brief would be very relaxed and easy to read, it would allow the client to understand and create product more easily and quickly.

Comparing this to negotiated Brief, they are both quite simliar. The only difference is that, the client and the company are included; also what is wanted, needed or that has to be done is usually spoken over the phone or during a face to face meeting. The sort of information needed in a Negotiation brief  to be a little harder to understand involving; size, cost, target group. time frame, quantity, quality and more. Also this brief is usually targeted towards a client who owns a small business or company wanting to make some investments with another business; this suits both the recipient and the creator.

An informal brief is usually progressed within a meeting, all aspects ( details and information) must appeal to all members that the client lists; if not then this will be discussed to make a variety of changes, so agreements can be made. The advantages with an informal brief is that it can be created within an relaxed environment. The advantages it can come across unprofessional and unclear to others, along with you may not be chosen as the final client as it is. Such as wedding planner, the clients will have more than one in line; if they do not meet up to the clients expectation you will not be chosen as the other has a better view of what the client needs.

Now on to a Tender Brief which you would receive this if you are new to the company and you were to bring up your own ideas to the plate amongst your colleagues, to decide if you should be the client.

Both briefs are produced within a relaxed environment, along with ideas can be discussed within a meeting. Yet Tender has to be stated in a formal manner as you are wanting a position that other are willing to fight for, comparing this an informal brief then comes across as unclear.
