Every film that is created by production companies has a specific target audience they wish to appeal to and therefore they include certain elements to appeal to them. The audience of a film is practically the most important aspect of a film because without a audience there will be no profit which means the film will fail. Films are made for different age, gender, race, class and ethnicity.
Most people nowadays watch a film based on the feedback they have heard from other people such as close friends and family or even what they have read over the internet. Word of mouth is one of the most effective ways people get an opinion on the film even without seeing it. Another very affective way of promotion is through social networks. When people watch a film most of the times they know exactly what to expect because of trailers so they know if the film appeals to them or not and this way they end up being satisfied.
Audiences nowadays are very naive as even if they can predict pretty much everything that is going to happen in the film they still watch it simply because others are watching it to. For example James Bond, paranormal activity and fast and furious pretty much repeat the same story in every film but people still pay to watch it mainly because they are influenced to do so by others.
More people now then ever are illegally watching films online so they don’t have to pay to go watch them in the cinema. This could be due to the lack of money but it could also be because people have been let down many times when watching a film in the cinema so now they just see it as a waste of money. This is affecting the film industry majorly as the profits are decreasing.
The most popular ways to watch films illegally is just directly of the laptop on websites such as 'let me watch this' as it is quick and simple but of course there are others who transfer this to there television so that they can watch it on a bigger screen.
Star Wars is a great example of a film that created a lot of devoted fans and shows the lengths to which some people will go for the films they like. They even have events where all the fans dress up as characters from star wars and take part in activities.
