Task 2 -
Film production
- how did you do that?
Film production
involved numerous stages, that are highly important. Which are split into 4
different groups.
•Pre Production
•Marketing&Advertising
•Post Production
•Audience Response
Pre Production is
the 1st step of preparation that are made for the shoot, in which the cast and
film crew are hired, locations are selected and sets are built. All of this is
done once the ideas have been created with the resources of old films, books or
plays. These will help the creators have a bigger picture of what they want the
film to be like.
But before all the
this happens the script has to be made otherwise there won't be a story line,
along the way the director&producers will in deed make a few changes
through out the recording process.
On the contrary,
film funding starts before the video production gets started. With out money
for the actors, locations and everything else. There won't be a film. The money
will come from investors, selling merchandise at a cheaper price, having to
negotiate with other companies. Many think it's easy to creat&film a movie
it isn't. It may take months to even years, just like the AVATAR - James
cameron took his time within the 10 years of creating this film. Going over his
budget by at least 2 million yet still made it become the success of films.
Impossible right? No, it's not. It just takes time and precision. Funding is
the key of creating a film.
The Film crew:
• Producer - creates the authority of
making films. S/he takes full control of raising fundings, arranging distributors
and many more. This position is needed throughout the whole process of making a
film.
•Script Writer - has to have the ability to be a good storyteller, he
or she is the one who practices the craft of screen writing.
•Film distributors - are contacted during the early stage of
pre production to get the marketing and financial part of film making.
• Director - are responsible for
having the eye for the creative aspects of a film, who will then seek out
his/her vision on the film to the set. In other words they're in control of
turning letters into a sequence of frames.
•Casting director - finds the actors of what the
screenwriter&director have agreed to but this usually requires an audition.
•Assistant director - sets up the actors, the film crews schedule
and logistics of production.
•Location manager - finds the location, that are suitable to
be shot in a controllable environment of a studio sound stage. ( Mainly
outdoors)
Before the
production officially starts, the director, producer, screen writer and the
assigned actors have a read over of the script as the actors may not agree to
what they have to do. So some adjustments will have to be made to the script
until everyone has an agreement. Once the agreement is final, the contract will
then signed.
Production:
At this stage this
is where the video/film has been created and filmed. More film staff has been
called in. They will be explained later on in the article.
During a typical
day of shooting with the good help of the assistant director, the crew come a
called to their scheduled time as well as the actors just at separate times
depending on the scene.
Due to the
dressing and lighting the set will be ready from days before. Always stay a
step ahead. Whilst the crew prepare their equipment, the actors wardrobe,
hair&make up are put in to place.
The actors go over
the script with the director.. Then its SHOW TIME!
Once the day is
done, the director then approves the next days shoot schedule which is then
sent of the production on calls sheet that are emailed to the cast&crew.
Additional Crew
for production:
•DOP ( Director of Photography) - is the cinematographer who keeps an eye
on the photography without the entire film.
•DOP ( Director of Audio) - supervises the audio throughout the entire
film.
•Production sound mixer - records and mixes the audio on set such as
; dialogue, presence and sound effect.
•Art director - manages the art department.
•Costume designer - creates the clothing for the characters
in the film working closely with the actors.
•Story board artist - created visual help for the director.
•Choreographer - creates and co-ordinates the movement and dance.
Post-Production&Advertisement :
This is the final
stage, where the film is released in selected cinemas as more profit will be
made.. But occasionally to the consumer of media: DVD, Blu-Ray - which is
usually sold for worldwide distributors. The film is then duplicated as it
needed to distribute to all selected cinemas.
Posters,
billboards, toys, name brand companies, sells items, you tube, television all
media resources will be published and the film will be promoted and advertised.
Launch parties,
press release, interviews with the press, press preview and film festival will
be prepared by the film distributors.
Independent Films:
is a professional film production resulting in a feature film that is produced mostly or completely outside of the major film studio system. In addition to being produced and distributed by independent entertainment companies, independent films are also produced and/or distributed by subsidiaries of major film studios. Independent films are sometimes distinguishable by their content and style and the way in which the filmmakers' personal artistic vision is realized. Independent Films created are:
Juno, Slum dog Millionaire and Many more.
Foreign Films:
does not mean the same as foreign language film, but the inference is that a foreign film is not only foreign in terms of the country of production, but also in terms of the language used. As such, the use of the term foreign film for films produced in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada or other English speaking countries would be uncommon within other English-speaking countries.
Foreign Films such as:
The lives of others
Amelie
City of God and Many more.
